Understanding Intuition: The Language of Love That Keeps You Connected

I want you to think back for a moment. Have you ever had an experience where you just knew something greater than yourself was trying to get your attention? Maybe something intervened at exactly the right moment... a nudge, a sense, a feeling you couldn't explain.

Most of us have had at least one of those moments. And yet, when we try to lean into that same experience on purpose, we immediately start to doubt ourselves.

I understand that doubt. I learned at a young age to trust my intuition, because every time I didn't, I regretted it. Whether it came as a knowing, a nudge, a sense or a feeling, ignoring it never served me. What I didn't learn back then was how to use it purposefully. That came later.

Intuition Isn't "Woo-Woo"

One of the most important things I want you to understand is that intuition isn't weird, dark, bad or unreliable. When you really pay attention to your intuition, understand how it works in your life and get in sync with it, it becomes the driving force that helps you live the most intentional, powerful, aligned life.

Honestly, I think they should teach kids how to understand it in school.

The way I explain it is this: intuition is the language of love that keeps us connected to the divine. It keeps us connected to where we came from. Whatever you call that powerful force of love... God, Creator, Source... intuition is how we communicate with our guardian angels and spirit guides, stay in sync with our highest self, and even become aware of messages from our loved ones in spirit.

The Four Ways Intuition Speaks

Intuition comes through seeing, hearing, feeling and knowing.

Seeing
Seeing isn't just with your physical eyes. Think about your mind's eye and how you can visualize things in your head. If you've ever made a last-minute stop at the grocery store and tried to picture the last time you opened the refrigerator, wondering how much milk was left in that gallon, you've used your mind's eye. Intuitive seeing works the same way. It can feel like a picture or a movie playing in your head.

Sometimes we see with our physical eyes too. A feather or a dime on the ground. A repeating number sequence. A shape in the clouds that catches our attention.

Hearing
Hearing can be a conversation in your head, but it can also be something you physically hear. A song on the radio. A snippet of conversation you overhear as you walk into a place of business.

Here's what to keep in mind about the conversations in your head: when you're receiving divine guidance, it is always loving, kind, supportive and truthful. Not every conversation in your mind is divine guidance. The ego is very chatty too.

So how do you tell the difference? When you're connected to the divine, the guidance is unwavering. It's certain and deliberate. Often it comes as a whisper, a single word or a short sentence rather than a long answer.

The ego, on the other hand, can be loud, iffy and inconsistent. It questions everything and feels anxious and all over the place. What if this? What if that? I don't know. The divine doesn't speak that way.

Feeling
Clairsentience is clear feeling, or clear impressions. It's the feeling you're left with.

It can be physical. The hair standing up on your arms or the back of your neck. Goosebumps. That pit in your stomach when something isn't right for you. But it can also be a joyful, exuberant feeling in your chest, or butterflies in your stomach that carry a good, nervous, happy energy. Even a tightening of the jaw can be a message. Our bodies often tell us yes or no, if we pay attention.

It also comes through emotional impressions. We've all walked into a room and felt the tension, or walked up to a group of people and sensed they had just been talking about us. That feeling is palpable.

Knowing
Knowing is like a mental download. Sometimes you ask a question in your mind and the answer drops right into your head. Most people have felt absolutely certain about something with no proof to back it up... and then found out they were right. That's knowing. It comes as an understanding.

Your First Step
Start by paying attention to your physical senses, and notice where intuition is already alive in your life. Look at how you may already be receiving information intuitively, and lean into that more. You can also ask your angels and guides to help you strengthen your other intuitive senses.

Paying attention to what you see, hear, feel and know in the now helps you become more aware across the board.

Because intuition is like a muscle. The more you recognize it, realize it's already a part of your life and start using it on purpose, the stronger it gets.
